I’ve been reflecting lately on chasing dreams. Some of my students will be graduating from high school in two months. Many of my friends are about to graduate from all kinds of post-college programs. And I’ve been thinking about how much courage it takes to chase your dreams.
I’ve known lots of people who have talked themselves out of doing what they loved to do. And this is what I’ve learned from them. If you stop chasing your passion, someone else will chase it instead. And life is boring without passion.
There are many reasons why people don’t even try to reach that elusive desire. Fear of failure, I would guess is the biggest deterrent. It makes me want to shout at my kids, “You fail at one hundred percent of the things you NEVER TRY!”
I don’t remember where I heard that quote, but it’s so true. Maybe I will add that into tomorrow’s lesson.
